During a weeklong trek to the remote and majestic Mt. Piapayungan, the team from the Northern Mindanao Mountaineering Society (NORMMS) was able to document rare glimpses of the mountain’s rich but elusive biodiversity.

While no wild animals were seen up close—only heard in the stillness of night, like the scurry of wild deer, or traced through droppings found near the campsite—the forest offered subtle signs of life. Colorful birds flitted in the distance, visible but just out of reach of the lens. Yet in the quiet understory and along the trail, the mountain revealed its quiet marvels: intricate plants, fungi, and flowers that thrive where few humans tread.

This gallery is a tribute to the living landscape of Mt. Piapayungan—untouched, mysterious, and waiting to be better understood.
